The Best Attractions of Detroit, Motor City
by Benny Rumpole

Detroit is becoming more and more popular as one of the
tourist destinations of the Midwest. Never thought of before
as a city that would hold much appeal to anyone but
businessmen, Detroit is opening its doors as a location that
will keep you entertained for several days.

The theater district of Detroit is called Woodward Avenue.
Always known as the place to go in Detroit for
entertainment, this area has been completely refurbished.
When you get ready to schedule your visit, be sure to check
the performance schedules to find at least one that will
appeal to your tastes.

If you're looking for a bit of culture while you're in
Detroit you'll want to visit the Detroit Institute of Arts.
This museum is one of the largest in North America and is
home to a collection of art from all eras including Asian
and American art, ancient art, and art from the 20th
century. You'll be able to view famous works from artists
such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, and Rembrandt.

Henry Ford Museum is another important museum you should
never miss. This museum was established by Henry Ford
himself with a view to educate the masses on the inventions
of steam locomotive and motorized roller skates. This museum
displays a timeline and chronicle of the numerous inventions
of Henry Ford. Apart from that, the museum also displays the
history of the automobile industry of North America.

The Motown Historical Museum is yet another museum that is
in the heart of Detroit but you won't find any paintings
hanging on the walls. Within the Motown museum you'll find
the original recording studio that was used by Stevie
Wonder, The Supremes, and Smokey Robinson. You can also see
many of the memorabilia made famous by popular musicians
from around the country.

Visiting Detroit with your children is a great way to
introduce them to the culture and arts of the Midwest. For
that day when they insist on doing something fun you might
want to suggest the New Detroit Science Center. This is a
great place to let your children interact with science.
They'll enjoy the advanced Digistar technology that shows
the universe, such as Mars, through the use of an
interactive virtual trip. Make sure that you schedule at
least a couple of hours at the center, however keep in mind
that very young children might have a hard time
understanding the technical side of this attraction.

The Detroit zoo is a worthwhile destination, as it houses
one of the largest wildlife resources in North America.
Among all the animals, gorillas and chimpanzees are the main
attraction of this zoo. Various other animals from the north
can be found in the Arctic Ring of Life, the Amphibian
Conservation Center, and the Innuit Village areas of the
zoo.

In the summer, Detroit is crowded with families who travel
during school holidays. The spring or fall are the ideal
time to visit Detroit if you want to stay away from the
crowd. Avoid visiting during the peak winter season unless
you have a penchant for winters, as the city is cast with a
snow blanket.

Detroit is a great place to go for a relaxing week-end or
longer. Talk to your travel agent about making arrangements
for your Detroit getaway.
